Psalms, chapter 70

Lord Come quickly. We need God in our lives, it is all we need.

Our Bible reading for today is from Psalms 70, the verse of reference in  is:

“But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; Lord, do not delay.” (Psalms 70:5 NIV).

Trusting in God, the Savior is our help and

historical commentary. – This psalm is the cry of a soul deeply distressed. It may represent the nation of Israel, which sees its enormous need for God. Psalm 70, repeat the request of David found in Psalm 40:13-17. The differences are: The Psalm 70 changes Lord (Yaweh) to God in verses 1 and 4 and 5. The earliest in verses 1 and 2, and the repetition in verses 1 and 5, give the salt 70 a greater sense of urgency. Remember that even in the moment of panic, David, did not forget to praise. Praise is important because it helps us to remember who God is and what He has done for us.

We are poor, please come quickly! Examine two biblical instances pointing our desperate condition, “the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted “Luke 18:13, 14. Christ says to the remnant church “Because thou sayest, I am rich, I have prospered, and I have need of nothing: and knowest not that thou art wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, that thou mayest be rich, and white clothes to wear, and that the shame of thy nakedness, and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see “Revelations 3 : 17,18. That is our condition, the solution is to ask God to come soon!

Thou art my help and my deliverer. – Remember that it is not the crisis that has the last word in this poem, but the manifestation of security and hope. The Lord is the source of help and our deliverer, His support and salvation are our security and future. The last word of God for His people is not to not feel desolated or judged, but feeling of hope and deliverance.

God of love and mercy. We need you because we are poor, needy sinners, come quickly to our aid! To reaffirm our faith that you are our help and deliverer, In the name of Jesus, amen.
