Psalms, chapter 74

You are my King ho God. Is God in control of your life?

Our Bible reading for today is from Psalms 74, the verse of reference in  is:

“But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth.” (Psalms 74:12 NIV).

Give our lives to God, that He may guide us.

Historical commentary. – You  may compare this psalm with  2 Chronicles 36:17-20 and Jeremiah 52:2-16, to have a picture of the conditions prevailing at the time this psalm was written  Biblical scholars argue that Psalm 74 was composed in the period after the destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, which occurred in 586 bc.

You are my king. – In Psalm 23 David says: you are my shepherd , in Psalm 74, the author says: “YOU ARE MY KING”, he proclaims that God is the ruler of our lives. Given the misfortunes with the people the psalmist evokes the great deeds and miracles that God had done through history. Reminiscing on how God has sustained us, given us comfort and hope for the future. Therefore, despite the desperate situation we are going through, we must declare a total trust in God.

Salvation. – Salvation is the wonderful work that God prepared for us to gain eternal life: “The plan had been conceived before the creation of the world for Christ is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 13:8. However, it was a struggle, even for the King of the universe, give his Son to die for the guilty race. But, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Oh, the mystery of redemption! The love of God to a world that did not love him! Who can understand the depth of that love “which passeth knowledge”? Al through endless ages immortal minds, trying to understand the mystery of that incomprehensible love, will wonder and worship God. PP54 48.

God, creator of heaven and earth. We declare out loud that you are our King and our God, we recognize the great blessings You have performed on our behalf. We pray that You may control our lives and make us ready to enjoy the salvation bought for us by Christ. In the name of Jesus, amen.
