Psalms, chapter 81

Walk in the path of Jesus. His way is prefect and His will for us eternal, accept it daily.

Our Bible reading for today is from Psalms 81, the verse of reference in  is:

“If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways,” (Psalms 81:13 NIV).

Key to Success:

To Listen and Walk in God’s Ways.

Historical commentary. – The Psalm 81 is listed as one of the teaching psalms in part because of the lessons that were sung as praises and thanksgiving to God. It is believed that this Psalm was written to celebrate one of the great feasts of Israel, some suggest it was Easter, or the feast of tabernacles, as both are essentially reminders of the Exodus (Ex. 12:26, 27; Lev. 23:42, 43). Calvin says that if this was the purpose of the holidays in Israel, likewise, when today the true believers congregate, their purpose should be to remember the benefits they have received from God, grow in the knowledge of His Word and witness about their unity in faith.

Listen to God. – One can unequivocally hear the voice of God through the reading of the Bible. For this reason, the first challenge of each day is hearing what God has to say about our lives. Do not leave your homes without the divine guidance: “The Word of the living God is not only written but also spoken. The Bible is God’s voice speaking to us, as surely as if we can hear it with our ears. If we understand this, with what reverence would you open the Word of God, and with what fervor study his precepts! The reading and contemplation of the Scriptures would be regarded as an audience with the Infinite. ” 4TS 398.

Walking in his ways. – Let us accept this divine admonition: “Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for He abounds in forgiveness. My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Our Father, thank you for the revelation and inspiration of your Holy Bible. We want our daily reading of scripture to be the lamp that illuminates our path. We ask you to help us not to walk on our own ways, may your Holy Spirit show us the way forward. In the name of Jesus, amen.
