Psalms, chapter 83

Although in silence, God is in control.Praise God always, because He is in control.

Our Bible reading for today is from Psalms 83, the verse of reference in  is:

“O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.” (Psalms 83:1 NIV).

Challenge:

Praise and understand the silence of God

Historical Commentary. – The author of the psalm is called Asaph, but this may mean Asaf or one of its descendants. One of the sons of Asaph named Jahaziel prophesied victory for Judah in battle against Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:13-17), so that the historic occasion which the psalmist makes reference to was the union of of Moab, Ammon and Edom in the time of Jehoshaphat. But the message may also apply to any time when God’s children are harassed by a coalition of enemies and need divine help.

The silence of God. – God is silent (v. 1), Israel is to be removed from the nations (v. 3, 4), the enemy is too powerful (vs. 4-8) and apparently God does not act. Remember these words: “But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him” (Habakkuk 2:20). We trust that God is in control of the entire universe.

God was silent. – Although silent, God suffered with His people. Angels beheld the Savior’s agony. They saw their Lord surrounded by legions of satanic forces, His nature weighed by a mysterious dread that made them shiver. There was silence in heaven. Could mortals have viewed the amazement of the angelic host as in silent grief they watched the Father separating His beams of light, love and glory of His beloved Son, they would better understand how offensive in His sight is sin. Meditate on the letter of praise. – God does not reject prayer, prayer is as precious nourishment. I have never seen the prayer of the righteous be left unanswered. Just expect to act when God raises His hands to help you overcome. During the time of test and problems, praise  although the bones may break and the tears flow, praise God because He will open the way and the doors that no one can shut. God walks with you night and day, raise your hands because your victory is coming, just praise God

Prayer

Our Father, we thank you because the whole universe is under your control. We ask that you increase our faith to trust that you are working quietly in our favor. In the name of Jesus, amen.
