Psalms, chapter 86

May God transform our lives.Fear God and give Him your life.

Our Bible reading for today is from Psalms 86, the verse of reference in  is:

“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” (Psalms 86:11 NIV).

One request, two results.

HISTORICAL REVIEW. – The Psalm 86 was written by David and is the only psalm of Book III. The psalmist wants God’s help to “walk in the truth” and wants to adopt it as a lifestyle. The highlight in this psalm is when, after making a request, it has a reason why your request should be heard by God. Nine times in this short psalm it alleges a probable cause in itself for God to hear the prayer, and the last five times the psalm notes the character of God as the reason. Another special feature is that the psalm “Tells God, about God,” instead of ” of telling God about us.”

Instruct us in your ways. – “The way of God can not be known by any particular institution. One must sit at the feet of God in order to learn the lessons that life offers. What other book can be compared with the Bible? An understanding of his teachings is essential for all children and youth, and to those of mature age, it is the Word of God, given to guide the human family into eternal life in heaven. There are many gods and many doctrines in the world today, that without an understanding of the Scriptures it would be impossible for young people to separate truth from error or discern between the sacred and the ordinary, “EC 229.

Lead me. – The desire for a son and daughter of God is to have a life that is characterized by loyalty and integrity. Faithfulness to God should lead to was said by Peter and John Paul: “We must obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29).

Fear God’s name. – The idea of “fearing God” has a reach deeper than that expressed about dread. To fear the name of God, leads to: 1) Living a life of respect commanded by God our creator. 2) It gives a purpose to our lives, to be like our divine model. 3) To reflect God in our lives, through our words, behavior and way of life.

Our father, thank you for giving us and inspiring the prophets and scriptures, they are the guiding our lamp that gives course to our life. We ask you to move us with fear for your name into a life of fidelity and happiness. In the name of Jesus, amen.
