Psalms, chapter 92

Give thanks.God is our creator, provider and strength.

Our Bible reading for today is from Psalms 92, the verse of reference in  is:

“For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. (Psalms 92:4 NIV).

Challenge:

Praise God for everything that He does for us.

Historical commentary. – Psalm 92 has titled “Song for the Sabbath day”, because it celebrates the works of God in creation, which is commemorated weekly by worshiping on Saturday (The seventh-day of creation). This psalm, and the following eight (Psalms 92-100) are liturgical in nature, they were made for the services of the temple. According to the Talmud, this psalm was sung on the Sabbath day, and other psalms were used the other six days of the week, in order, 24, 48, 72, 94, 81 and 93.

Contemplate creation. – God instituted the Sabbath to be dedicated to:
1) To remember the work of creation,
2) Allow us to find the author of life,
3) Praise with other members of the Christian community the power of our God Almighty.

“The great Jehovah had laid the foundations of the earth, had dressed everyone with a blanket of beauty, and had filled the world with things useful to man, had created all the wonders of the earth and sea. The great work of creation was made in six days. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation. ” Genesis 2:2, 3. Everything was perfect, worthy of its divine Author, and He rested, not as one weary, but satisfied with the fruits of his wisdom and goodness and the manifestations of his glory. ” PP 26.

Praises work in our favor. – The United States and other countries celebrate a day called “Thanksgiving”; During the day, families gather to remember their blessings and to express gratitude to God. But God did not intended for us to show gratitude only during one day of the year, but to always be on our lips and join together weekly, as a family, to express  gratitude for the divine blessings received. When giving thanks becomes an integral part of ones life, we are more merciful, loving and humble.

Prayer

God, creator of the universe, we thank you for creating us. We pray that your blessings are poured on our families and friends, allow us to testify about your love. In the name of Jesus, amen.
