Psalms, chapter 97

Lord guard us from evil.May we be ready to accept God’s will in our lives.

Our Bible reading for today is from Psalms 97, the verse of reference in  is:

“Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. (Psalms 97:10 NIV).

Challenge:

Hate the sin and trust in divine protection.

Historical commentary. – Psalm 97 is a royal psalm and liturgical theme is “The LORD reigns.” Presents one of the most splendid paintings of divine glory that can be found in the Old Testament: Celebrate the enthronement of Yahweh as righteous ruler of all the earth, glorify God for his sovereignty over the land from his righteousness and power. He was established with the power manifested from heaven and declared that the righteous will be vindicated.

Reasons to turn away from sin. – Enunciate some basic reasons why we should hate sin and turn away from it:
1) Sin separate us from God.
2) Sin ruined God’s ideal for Adam and Eve, and continues to destroy homes, sowing hatred and selfishness instead of love,
3) Sin brought disease and death, causes tears and pain.
4) Sin leads to a life where heinous acts and feelings are often impossible to erase from our minds.
5) Satan and his deceptions have captivated our minds to enjoy the momentary pleasures that lead to the neglect of spiritual things.

God delivers his faithful children. – God promises to protect His children:
1) He delivered Noah and his family from the flood.
2) He delivered Moses in the river Nile and guided him throughout his life.
3) Protected David from dying at the hands of Saul.
4) He delivered Peter from Herod.
5) Paul was stoned, but God delivered him from death.

However, sometimes He also allows His children to go to rest before their time when it is best for their salvation:
1) Abel died as the first martyr.
2) Ahimelech and 85 priests were killed by order of Saul.
3) Isaiah was killed as ordained by Manasseh.
4) Stephen was stoned and killed.
5) John the Baptist was beheaded.

Prayer

Eternal Father. We implore that You may open our minds to forsake sin and turn away even from the appearance of evil. We thank you for prolonging the life of your children. And we pray to be ready when you decide to call us to rest in the grave. In the name of Jesus, amen.
